The Ralph O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI) Postdoctoral Scholars Program will support two postdoctoral stipends in the fixed amount of $60K each, in FY2026.
The aim of the program is to:
- Broaden or deepen ROSEI’s impact in energy research, while also increasing the diversity of energy scholars closely associated with the institute
- Provide a touchpoint with scholars who will be impactful academics
- Connect and strengthen ROSEI objectives/pillars/identified needs
- Increase connectivity to ROSEI itself for faculty
ROSEI postdoctoral scholars will be members of the ROSEI Postdoctoral Scholars and Research Scientists Group and will have an energy–relevant peer network to collaborate with. Scholars will be an integral part of the ROSEI community and welcomed at all ROSEI events. The institute will write and promote at least one online story about each postdoc’s work and research. ROSEI will assist in providing access to its growing networks in industry, government, the DOE labs, and academia.
Expectations:
- Scholar: It is expected that at least 50% of the ROSEI Postdoctoral Scholar’s time is directly related to work and partnership with a ROSEI faculty member as the advisor. The remaining time is to be spent on energy relevant work and activities, and may or may not be connected to a specific advisor.
- Advisor: ROSEI core or associate faculty members who agree to advise ROSEI Postdoctoral Scholars are expected to provide time (at least bi-weekly meetings) and resources (as appropriate for the work) as well as mentorship and guidance. Note that the advisor has the responsibility for any costs associated with the postdoctoral appointment exceeding $60K in FY2026.
Eligibility: PhD graduates in energy relevant fields at the time the postdoctoral position would start. Current postdocs and existing scholars may apply/re-apply.
Application: The application period for the program is open, and evaluation begins on March 1st, for appointment starting as early as July 1 (program stays open until positions filled). An application should consist of:
- A CV
- A research plan (2 pages) including identification of a ROSEI-relevant project area and at least one potential post-doctoral advisor (from ROSEI core or associate faculty)
- 3 letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from the ROSEI-affiliated potential post-doctoral advisor
To formally apply to the program, applicants should email [email protected] with the materials above and the subject line “ROSEI Postdoctoral Scholars Program Application”. Please note that an application without that subject line will not be considered for the program.
Selection: A committee made up of three ROSEI Core and/or Associate faculty members, who are not recommending candidates as potential advisors this cycle, reviews the applications and makes a recommendation to the Director. Positions are filled so long as funding remains available.
Questions: Should be directed to Susanna Thon.
