Ben Link, the deputy director for the Ralph O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI), has been named a board director of the Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC).

Ben Link

MCEC was created in 2008 by the State of Maryland government to spark a future powered by clean energy. It serves as a catalyst for the clean energy revolution, guiding the growth of sustainable businesses, unlocking financial resources, and sharing the knowledge and expertise needed for the state of Maryland to thrive.

Along with MCEC’s other board directors, Link’s main responsibilities will include setting up a strategic direction, reviewing policies, and overseeing the center’s activities. The board is also responsible for evaluating and coordinating financing for clean energy projects, facilitating efficient tax equity markets, and securing private investment capital.

“We’ve seen the ability of several State sponsored clean energy centers – in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey for example– to create tailored decarbonization strategies for their transportation, industrial and agricultural sectors. These State energy centers provide catalytic funding for these initiatives while creating new jobs and new businesses, growing the overall state economies” Link said. “For the past two decades, MCEC has supported renewable energy growth in Maryland and worked with State legislators to create the policy environment to turbo charge the effort. Now, Maryland has publicly elected officials who are keen to achieve the decarbonization targets established in the Maryland Climate Solutions Now act of 2022. It’s a thrill to work with a great group of people tackling the climate opportunities in our backyard.”

As a green bank, MCEC’s directives are rooted in its enabling statute, which empowers the group to promote clean energy industries, provide financing solutions, and drive meaningful change across the state. With this foundation, MCEC is committed to:

  • Fueling the expansion of clean energy businesses across the state.
  • Accelerating the adoption of cutting-edge clean energy technologies.
  • Attracting and retaining dynamic companies within the clean energy sector.
  • Amplifying Maryland’s economy, creating new opportunities and prosperity.
  • Enhancing the health, safety, and well-being of our communities, while nurturing a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
