Title: Getting to Net-Zero: The US Long-Term Strategy and Near-Term Challenges

Abstract: The US and many other nations have long-term strategies to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. What are the key elements of the US strategy, and the key questions and conflicts over that strategy? What are the near-term challenges in making progress this decade toward a net-zero goal?

Abstract: Dr. Karl Hausker is a Senior Fellow in WRI’s Climate Program. He leads analysis and modeling of net-zero emission pathways, climate mitigation, electricity market design, and the social cost of carbon. He has worked for three decades in the fields of climate change, energy, and environment in a career that has spanned legislative and executive branches, research institutions, NGOs, and consulting. He has led climate policy analysis and modeling projects for USAID, USEPA, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the Western Climate Initiative, and the California Air Resources Board. Karl holds an M.P.P and Ph.D. in Public Policy from University of California, Berkeley, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Cornell University.

Note: The seminar will be held in-person in Homewood Campus in Hackerman Hall B-17, as well as virtually. There will be an open Q&A/discussion oriented to students about career paths and research topics with Dr. Hausker at 4:30 pm (570.876 class), all are welcome.
