Summer Research Experiences in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technology (ReSET) at the University of Maryland, College Park

Interested in learning about and/or developing technologies in renewable energy production and sustainable energy generation, storage, and use?

The University of Maryland is home to many world class energy related centers dedicated to working across disciplinary boundaries and transforming science research. Undergraduate students and secondary STEM educators are encouraged to apply to this summer REU/RET program. The projects span a broad range of energy related materials and materials-limited issues and propose solutions using ceramic, metal, organic materials and more. Topics include low temperature, low energy consumption ways to fix nitrogen in fertilizer or fuels, rapid nanomanufacturing of materials for energy applications, the fabrication and testing of solid-state batteries, and low environmental impact approaches to make transparent electrodes for devices. Participants will acquire experience in state-of-the-art, hands-on scientific methods, data analysis, modeling and simulation, and best practices in laboratory safety protocols.

For Students:

Student participants will have career exploration and professional development opportunities through faculty mentors, lectures and lab tours, as well as team-building activities for an inclusive cohort experience.

The program will run from June 6 – August 12, 2022, and offers a $6000 stipend, as well as limited travel support to and from College Park, MD.

Applicants should have completed one to three years of college work and completed at least one semester of college chemistry, physics and calculus. For some projects, programming experience is desirable. Applications from students at community colleges and small colleges are welcome. Students majoring in chemistry and physics as well engineering are encouraged to apply.

Please follow this link to apply.  For best consideration, apply by March 7, 2022.  Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
